About Southern African Bus Operators’ Association (SABOA) is the credible voice of an inclusive, efficient, sustainable and transforming bus and coach industry. It plays a pivotal role in an integrated transport system through safe, reliable and affordable bus and coach services that add value, and are attractive to stakeholders. Since its inception in 1980, SABOA has been actively involved in establishing and promoting training in the industry. These initiatives saw it working in close partnership with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) to introduce training programmes tailored to meet the needs of the industry. The three-year Diploma in Road Transport has been very successful in training and empowering thousands of bus company employees since the inception of the qualification in 1980. SABOA has also partnered with the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) in the establishment of learnerships in the industry. As well as to offer skills training programmes for SMME’s in various fields, to ensure they are better equipped to become part of the mainstream of public transport.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Our Associated Members are from a wide range of Industries. Industry suppliers provide essential goods and services to logistics companies, trucking firms, and freight carriers. These include materials, spare parts, fuel, lubricants, tires, and maintenance equipment. Equipment and Vehicles: Suppliers offer trucks, trailers, and other specialized vehicles used for road freight. They also provide technological solutions such as GPS tracking systems, telematics, and fleet management software. Safety and Compliance: Suppliers contribute to safety by providing safety gear, reflective clothing, and warning signs. They also supply compliance-related items like tachographs, load securing equipment, and safety manuals. Environmental Considerations: Suppliers play a role in promoting eco-friendly practices. For instance, they provide low-emission engines, fuel-efficient tires, and other sustainable solutions. Innovation and Research: Suppliers invest in research and development to improve road freight efficiency. They collaborate with manufacturers to create better-performing vehicles and components.

Who We Are: Established in 1980, SABOA is a non-profit, member driven Association focused on creating a transformative and sustainable bus and coach industry in South Africa. The association plays a key role in the transport policy formulation process and is an active and credible participant in the consultative platforms of Government. SABOA is committed to representing the interests of its members and its lobbying, research, education and empowerment initiatives. The Associations, through its long- standing involvement in public transport, has become known as the Voice of the Bus and Coach Industry. As a provider of transport services, it has and continues to provide daily mobility to millions of people who are dependent on public transport. These commuters are made up of, learners who require transport to and from school, workers who require transport to and from their jobs, individuals who are seeking employment or access to health and other services, long- distance services as well as local and international tourists who travel within and across the borders of South Africa.
