Our Members SMME operators represent 96% of the operating companies that are members of the Association whilst established operators represent 4%. Currently SABOA represents approximately 70% or, 13 000 of the 19 000 buses and coaches used for public transport in South Africa.
The Association represents the interests of members rendering the following types of services: Commuter Services Long-Distance Services Contract Services Cross-Border Services (International) Learner Transport Services Shuttle Services Charter Services Scheduled Coach Services Tourist Transport Services
Indirect Membership Benefits: Through activities and initiatives, the Association benefits the industry, both members and non-members alike: Representation in forums that are normally “reserved” for organised commerce and industry “Watchdog” function in terms of road transport and road traffic legislation Being consulted by government on a range of topics Lobbying on a range of issues Comments on and inputs into road transport and road traffic legislation and regulations Transport policy debates and amendments The design and specification of tender documents Escalation formulae in tender and negotiated contract documents Safety issues in the industry Media liaison Protecting the interests of the industry over a wide front SABOA is in regular contact with international trade associations and actively participates in international forums and conferences

Membership Application Process & Administration Kindly take note of the following process and administration requirements for all membership applications: Membership Applications Process: All applications are considered by the National Executive Committee and National Council of SABOA at its bi-monthly meetings. The decision of the Committees regarding such applications are deemed final. The result of the application will be conveyed to the applicant in writing. New entrants into the industry (operators) may also apply for provisional membership if proof of application for a permit or operating license is submitted with the application forms.
How to Apply for Membership: 1. Complete the relevant membership application form. 2. Submit the completed application form and a signed copy of the SABOA Code of Conduct and SABOA Road Safety Code of Conduct, via email to saboa@saboa.co.za.
